The US SciFi Channel has announced that Battlestar Galactica is set to spawn a spin-off series. Currently in development at NBC Universal Television, Caprica will serve as a prequel and promises to explore the history of the Adama family and the events that led to the birth of the Cylons.

David Eick has revealed that several famous writers have approached the producers of Battlestar Galactica about the possibility of scripting an episode. “We’ve had interest from people that I’m a big fan of like Vince Gilligan, who was one the great writers from The X-Files . Michael Chabon, who is a great novelist and one of my favorite screenwriters, is another who approached us.”
